3 Questions to Ask a Wedding Photographer Before Booking

Are you planning your 2025 wedding? Congratulations on your engagement! This is an exciting time in your lives!

As a former bride, I've recently gone through the whole wedding planning process. I've talked with different wedding vendors to figure out who I wanted to give my business to. Picking someone to photograph my wedding was one of the most important things I knew I needed to vet out who was going to document my partner and I's special day.

Here are three things that I asked that helped me pick the right wedding photographer:

1. How long have you been photographing weddings?

Asking this question gives you a good idea of what qualifications your photographer has. Do you want a seasoned pro that knows what to expect during a wedding day and has a particular style? Do you want a photographer who is new to the industry and has a fresh eye and perspective on weddings? Either choice is fine, it depends on your preference and price point. Typically, photographers who have been photographing weddings for years will have a higher price point than those who are new to the wedding scene, so make sure you take a look at your budget and see what you're willing to pay a photographer.

2. May we see a full wedding gallery you've shot?

This is a GREAT question to ask photographers. Asking for a wedding gallery your photographer has shot gives you a better idea of what kind of photos they're taking, their artistic style, how many photos end up in an average gallery, and the overall vibe for the final gallery. Make sure you ask for several different galleries with different lighting situations, so you know that your photographer can navigate any kind of lighting situation. Bonus if they've shot at a venue similar to yours!

3. Why did you choose to become a wedding photographer?

This question will tell you a lot about a photographer's character, how they approach wedding photography, and why they do what they do. Are they doing it just for the money? Or are they a wedding photographer because they love the emotions, they love being there for their couples, and they want to give their couples the best experience on their wedding day?

If you ask your potential photographer these three things, you'll be able to vet out your dream team for your dream day! Still on the hunt for your wedding photographer? I'm still booking weddings for 2025 & 2026 dates! If you want answers to all three of these questions, let's get you scheduled for your FREE consultation call.
