Get ready for some moody, dramatic engagement photos.

When Tara and Kyle told me they wanted to have their engagement photos at Union Station in Kansas City, I knew it would be special. This wasn’t just any location for them—it’s the spot where Kyle got down on one knee last Christmas in front of a massive, twinkling tree and asked Tara to marry him. So yeah, no pressure, right?
Fast forward to their engagement session, and the vibe was simple: they were up for anything, and I got to let my creativity run wild. Tara and Kyle are one of those couples who just click. They’re chill, they’re fun, and they didn’t even flinch when I started geeking out about the light bouncing off the station’s marble floors or the dramatic shadows in the arched windows.
Union Station has this timeless, slightly cinematic feel, and we leaned into it hard. We played with reflections on the polished floors and found little pockets of soft, glowing light. It wasn’t just about taking photos in pretty spots—it was about capturing moments that felt like them.
What struck me most was how Tara and Kyle just are together. There’s no forcing it—they’re laid-back in the best way, whether they’re laughing at an inside joke or just standing there looking like they stepped out of an indie rom-com poster. They gave me the freedom to experiment and trusted the process, which is basically a photographer’s dream.
For me, sessions like this aren’t about perfection. They’re about catching the little moments: the way Kyle looks at Tara when she’s not paying attention or the way Tara just lights up when Kyle leans in close. It’s those tiny, unscripted pieces of the day that I love most.
Union Station gave us all the dramatic architecture and light we could’ve hoped for, but it was the easy connection between Tara and Kyle that brought the magic. Scroll down for a few of my favorite shots from their session.
